FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Calling all writers
Registration opens for 2010 Ontario Writers’ Conference
DURHAM REGION, DECEMBER 1, 2009: On May 1, 2010, writers will flock from Ontario and beyond to Ajax for the Ontario Writers’ Conference (OWC.) Where else can they rub elbows with world-famous authors like sci-fi giant Robert J. Sawyer, funny guy Richard Scrimger, and historical fiction writer Barbara Kyle?
What began in 2008 as the dream of a handful of organizers from the Writers’ Circle of Durham Region has blossomed into a full-fledged writers’ organization. OWC’s one-day conference takes place at Deer Creek Golf and Conference Facility. Experienced and aspiring writers can hone their skills in interactive workshops on writing, editing and publishing; receive manuscript feedback in a one-on-one session with a professional editor; and fire publishing questions at a panel of editors, agents, authors and publishers.
After a day chockfull of education, networking and superb food, the conference opens to the public with the Festival of Authors. This coffeehouse-style evening features readings from noted authors like Catherine Gildiner and Barry Dempster, as well as a literary marketplace and a chance to mix and mingle with the conference literati.
At OWC’s 2008 event, honorary patron Wayson Choy inspired attendees with a keynote address of solidarity. “I face the blank page just like all of you,” he said. For those who had weathered moments of doubt, wondering if “they should give up or keep going” his affirmation was, “Like you, I just kept going.” Many will return to the 2010 Ontario Writers’ Conference seeking further motivation and encouragement. Like Wayson Choy, they just keep going.
The $210 conference fee ($180 for WCDR members) includes full day program, continental breakfast, buffet lunch and dinner, and Festival of Authors. Register by December 15 for the early bird price of $185 ($160 for WCDR members.) Attendance at the Festival of Authors only is $10 ($5 for WCDR members.) Complete details, registration forms and online registration (PayPal and major credit cards) are available at www.thewritersconference.com <http://www.thewritersconference.com/> . To register by mail, forward form and cheque or money order to: Ontario Writers’ Conference, 85 Chambers Drive, Unit #5, Ajax, ON L1Z 1E2.
